THIS WEEK

This week in Kindergarten we focused on Spiders.  On Monday,  we began our discussion of Spiders by sharing what our Schema was for Spiders and we added to our chart as we discovered new learning.   We are continuing to learn about making connections and created a “spider web”   to share how all of our connections help our own schema grow.   We read many fiction and non-fiction Spider books this week – our favorite being The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle.

We completed our Math Assessments this week and are looking forward to beginning our Math Unit on Patterns.

This has been a big week in Kindergarten.  I finished up with all student testing. I am so impressed with what sweet, smart students I have.   It is so important that we all work together to provide our students with great learning experiences.  Work with your students for a few moments each day on reading, sight words, and letters as well as counting to 100 and number recognition.

We also have had a great time this week learning about our classroom library and checking books out that are of interest to us.
In Readers workshop,  we learned what it means to be a reader and are discovering what we as readers like.  In Writer’s workshop, we discovered that we are never finished with our writing,  we can always add more detail to the picture, add to the words, add labels or start a new piece.  An author is never finished!

In Math,  we are working on counting and number recognition.  We created Counting books, and learned to play Roll and Record.

COMING UP

Our Reading Workshop focus will be how to pick books from class library based on interests and if the book is a  good reading fit as well as building our reading stamina.  We also are working on learning new reading strategies -   Eagle Eye,  Lips the Fish, and Stretchy Snake.

Our Writing Workshop focus will be on  writing the beginning sounds of what we hear and having our writing match our picture to tell a story and building our writing stamina.

THIS WEEK

We are really learning our procedures and what it means to be a reader and writer.  I am so excited as we move further into our academic year and how amazing my students are growing.  One of the most important things you can do for your student is to read to and with them.   Please make sure that they are reading and writing every day.  This week we learned about making lists and getting our thoughts and ideas down on paper like real authors do.  Opportunities for real world application are so important.  Have your student help you make a grocery or to do list and then follow through with it so they see purpose behind their writing.   You will be amazed at what happens when students figure out that there are all kinds of reasons to right.

THANK YOU: --  THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HELPING TO MAKE OUR FUN FEST A SUCCESS!   YOU ARE ALL IMPORTANT TO OUR SCHOOL!

This coming week we will continue with our Back to School theme.  Our reading focus will be on learning that We are all Readers and Writers.

THIS WEEK

This week we continued learning what it means to be in school while adding lots of great academic learning.  We learned what it means to be a good friend and how we should treat one another.   We are learning how to problem solve.

We began our King/Queen of the Jungle this week and we are learning how to write our friends names, our own names, what it means to tell a story with our pictures, how to label, and lots more about being a writer.

We learned this week that there are three ways to read a book:  Read the pictures,  Read the words, and Retell the story.  The students did a great job learning to build stamina in their reading as we practiced these different ways.  We are beginning to understand that we are all readers.

In Math, we learned about the numbers 0 and 1.  We are focusing on flat shapes beginning with circles, patterning and problem solving.

Please see the back side of this newsletter for great achievements!   Keep working hard!
